[OP-ED] Daehan Minguk Manse Forever
Danny Cho, Feb. 12, 2016, 6 p.m.
This past Sunday was the last time Daehan, Minguk, and Manse will be on 'Return of Superman', and I have to say it dampened my mood a bit. It’s like seeing Kobe’s last game. I’m not even joking.
For a single guy in his 30’s, 'Return of Superman' is not necessarily a show that one would think would end up being one of his favorites, but somehow, that’s what happened to me. It’s a show that I watch every Sunday, and I do watch older episodes when I need some cheering up.
The main reason for my love for the show is the Song triplets: Daehan, Minguk, Manse. Their dad, actor Song Il Gook, must really love his country to name his sons the way he did. The phrase "Dae Han Min Gook Man Se" can be translated to "Hurray to the Great Han People". It’s a phrase that is uttered to show the fierce pride of the Korean people, who have been invaded and occupied by neighboring countries for many years.
But this piece isn’t about history. It's about those TRIPLETS. Those adorable kids were the main reason for my love of 'Return of Superman'. Look, I think Sarang, Haru, Jion, the Seo twins, the Lee twins, and Daebakee are all great, but those triplets were my favorite because one of them always made me laugh. My personal favorite is Min Guk. It’s so fascinating to see how different they are and how much they have grown over the span a little less than 2 years.
Look, guys. I’m one of the most jaded humans that I know, so I understand that this is just a show, and it only shows the fun parts of the 48 hours of recording. Also, just like photoshop, editing and music makes what you see on screen way better. I’m sure there is footage of the triplets being complete nightmares for their father. But even with knowing all that, I love these kids.
Daehan definitely has the personality of the oldest child. The kid seems to be the most responsible of the bunch. He’s the one that will help his dad do the dishes or a variety of chores. There are many times when I think to myself, "I’d love to have a son like Daehan." Although maybe not as physical and active as his brothers, he seems to be the most reliable.
Minguk is up next and boy, he is entertaining as hell. He loves to dance and sing. This kid definitely has the “it” factor because he pops out on-screen. If one of them grew up to be an entertainer, it would be this kid. To me, big-headed, chubby-faced kids are the cutest, and Minguk might be the perfect example of that.
Manse is the youngest of the bunch. He’s the most mischievous out of the triplets and seems to disobey his dad the most. He’s definitely the most social amongst his brothers, too. I’m amazed how other kids interact with him the best. I call him "little pimp" because every time there is a little girl in the area, he’s there playing with them. Let’s hope "Little Pimp Manse" doesn't get into too much trouble. If I was a gambling man, I’d bet money that Manse would be the first one out of his brothers to get a girl pregnant.
So, to Daehan, Minguk, and Manse: thank you for making me a bit of a nicer person every week. I’ve seen you guys grow up over the last 2 years and even though I’m a bit sad that I won’t be able to see you kids anymore, I wish you the best. Just grow up healthy and happy.
