It’s been four years since the SM Entertainment debuted the Korean-Chinese male idol group and boy, have they done a lot since. In 2012, they released their debut single MAMA, which quickly shot up to the charts. Since their debut, EXO has released 3 albums and 5 EPs, won numerous awards, appeared on countless musical programs, and became one of the most recognizable Korean idol group in the nation. They just recently released their annual winter album “For Life”.
2. BIG BANG
Big Bang celebrated ten years since their debut back in August! This Korean boy band’s popularity has not been fazed and have grown to be substantially successful throughout the years. Their first single “BigBang” reached moderate success, but their breakthrough occurred with the release of the EP titled “Always”. Big Bang has grossed millions in sales (even raking in $44 million one year!), won hundreds of awards, and just released their third studio album, “Made”.
BTS debuted in 2013 with the release of their album “2COOL4SKOOL” and gained international popularity with their hit single “I Need U” from their third EP “The Most Beautiful Moments Part 1”. Since their debut, BTS has made history by breaking records left and right, setting the new record for the highest ranking for a Korean artist on the billboard 200, and becoming the first Korean artist to make it on the U.K.’s Official Charts’ Album Chart. To add to their impressive resume, their worldwide “Wing Tour” sold out in a matter of minutes.
4. GIRL'S GENERATION
Making their debut in 2007 with “Into the New World”, SNSD has made themselves a household name since. The group has gone through some changes in the lineup after Jessica’s departure, but the group is still one of the most popular KPOP idols groups in the world. They are gearing up for a comeback soon and we cannot contain our excitement!
2NE1 was insanely popular from the start. Their single “I Don’t Care” in their first EP shot up to number one in the charts. A plethora of number one singles and albums followed, along with various awards and recognition. The group announced their disbandment in November, but 2NE1 will always have a place in our hearts and will forever be in our memories.
