Park Geun-hye's sister-in-law visited her in jail on Monday but did not get to see the ex-president. The visit by Seo Hyang-hee, the wife of Park's brother Ji-man, marks a further baffling installment in the saga of the dysfunctional Park family.
The Parks fell out decades ago over Park Geun-hye's alarming closeness to her confidante Choi Soon-sil, who has now proved the engine of her downfall. Park Ji-man also visited his sister at home just before she was jailed last week and shed some tears as he left.
No reconciliation seems to be on the cards between Park and her sister, Park Geun-ryeong, who has been involved in ugly litigation with the ex-president also prompted by her sticky relationship with Choi.
Shin Dong-wook, Geun-ryeong's husband, also wanted to visit Park the same day, but the ex-president refused to see him.
The prisoner seems to have gone into another sulk and is currently refusing to see anybody except her lawyer Yoo Yeong-ha and administrative staffer Yoon Jeon-choo, who acts as a kind of valet.
