Samsung Techwin has sold 120 K-9 self-propelled howitzers to Huta Stalowa Wola, a Polish producer of military equipment, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. The deal is worth US$310 million, with each K-9 costing W2.8 billion (US$1=W1,102).
The first batch of 24 guns will be delivered directly to Poland by 2017, and the second batch of 96 will be assembled in Poland from 2018, a military spokesman said. The guns, which have a range of some 40 km, were made by Samsung Techwin, which the Samsung Group has just sold to Hanhwa.
Back in 2001, the company also sold 350 K-9 howitzers to Turkey. "This is the first weapons contract fulfilled under a strategic partnership on defense and defense industry, agreed by President Park Geun-hye and her Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski in October last year," Samsung Techwin said in a press release. "Based on this latest export, we can export up to $1 billion worth of self-propelled artillery vehicles to Poland in the future."
