President Moon Jae-in has called for joint events with North Korea to commemorate the 100th anniversary next year of the March 1 Independence Movement in 1919 against Japanese colonial rule. He made the call at the launch of a committee here tasked with preparing for the anniversary of the movement.
"Sharing the history of Korea's independence can promote cross-border reconciliation," Moon said. The committee, which consists of some 100 private citizens and government officials, will be preparing events celebrating the sacrifices of patriots.
