President Park Geun Hye Cleared of Accusatory Election Laws Violations

The election watchdog said Monday that President Park Geun-hye's recent comment critical of a ruling party lawmaker did not violate election laws. The National Election Commission said it reached its decision in a meeting earlier in the day.
The decision came days after the main opposition New Politics Alliance for Democracy asked the commission to decide whether Park's recent comments violated the election laws that call for, among other things, neutrality of public officials.
Last month, Park gave an unusually scathing remark against ruling Saenuri Party floor leader Yoo Seong-min for what she called "politics of betrayal." She blamed him for giving into the opposition pressure to approve a bill that would give greater administrative power to the National Assembly. Park later vetoed the bill and Yoo stepped down after accepting the party's resolution recommending his resignation.
