To those who were anticipating Lee Seung Gi's first drama after returning from military service, they may have been disappointed to see all the mishaps that have been occurring on set and during the production process. tvN and JS Pictures, the official production company for the drama, have issued an apology.
"Regarding production and broadcasting issues, including the staff injury on December 23, the broadcast errors in episode 2 that aired on December 24, the changes in the broadcast schedules, and more -- we bow our heads in deep apology, in all aspects. We especially apologize to the staff member who suffered an incident on the set, and to that staff member's family. tvN and JS Pictures understand the severity of this accident and how it shouldn't happen again."
They have announced a 1-2 day vacation for the entire staff so they can regroup and think about how the production will be moving forward. The production company will be deciding a new CG/special effects agency to touch up scenes and heighten the visual quality of the drama. The drama has already announced that a new director would be joining the staff. And the staff will be hiring an external safety management agency for consultations.
Their joint statement ended with, "We have spent time regrouping and will be making adjustments to the staff's working standards, schedules, etc. Beginning Saturday, January 6, 'Hwayugi' will be going back to its regular broadcast schedule with episode 3."
The third episode of "Hwayugi" will broadcast on January 6 at 9 PM KST. Afterwards, it will continue to air on Saturday and Sunday. The drama is written by the Hong sisters and is a modern re-telling of "Journey to the West."
