Korean singer Roy Kim was appointed Friday as a promotional ambassador for Gangnam-gu District’s donation project. The project encourages celebrities to receive rice and daily necessities from their fans in lieu of goods such as flowers, and forward them to the adolescents in the district who are facing financial hardship.
Gangnam launched the donation project, called “G+ Star Zone,” in 2013, and has appointed celebrities to help promote the project for each project season. Korean boy bands 2PM and SS501, girl group Kara, singer Jay Park, and actor-singer Kim Dong-wan have served as promotional ambassadors for “G+ Star Zone” in the past.
Roy debuted as a singer after winning first place on Mnet’s TV competition series “Superstar K4” in 2012. He is currently an undergraduate student at Georgetown University but is pursuing a career as a singer at the same time.
