Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Ryu Hyun-jin's injury woes have returned, forcing him out of Sunday's spring training game against the Cleveland Indians. Ryu, who was scheduled to start Sunday's game, reported pain in his left shoulder during a game against the Texas Rangers last Tuesday. The following day he was given an anti-inflammatory injection for the pain, but an MRI was deemed unnecessary.
Shoulder problems landed Ryu on the disabled list twice last year. He was sidelined for some 20 days from April 28 to May 21 with a shoulder inflammation, and for another 24 days when he left the mound after just one inning in a game against the San Francisco Giants on Sept. 13. Ryu downplayed the latest setback. "There's still two more weeks [of spring training]. I don't think this is a major problem. This is just three days. It still gives me plenty of time," he said.
But Dodgers manager Don Mattingly wasn't taking any chances. "Obviously, we're still concerned and cautious, and we'll err on the side of caution," he said, hinting that Ryu could start the season on the disabled list.
