Samsung Electronics dominated the global LTE smartphone market with a 32.2 percent share in the second quarter of this year by selling 28.6 million phones, Strategy Analytics said on Sunday. Apple ranked second with a 31.9 percent share, falling from its top spot last quarter with a 40.5 percent share. Apple sold 32.7 million units in the January to March period.
LG Electronics ranked third with 5.2 percent of the market. The three firms combined accounted for almost 70 percent of the market. Since the release of the Galaxy S5 in April, Samsung has seen sales of its LTE smartphones rise.
Sales of Apple devices rose in the first quarter following the launch of the iPhone in China. Sales then dipped in the second quarter as customers have postponed purchases in anticipation for the release of the new iPhone in September.
