Samsung kept its lead as the world's top smartphone maker in the third quarter of this year. Market researcher Strategy Analytics said on Friday that Samsung shipped nearly 85 million units from July through September, boosting its global market share to more than 21 percent. Shipments jumped 11 percent on-year.
Key contributing factors were strong demand for its middle and low-price handsets, especially in Latin America and India.
The market share of Samsung's archrival Apple shrank slightly to 11.9 percent. Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi saw its market share increase from 4 to 7 percent.
