Samsung Medical Center resumed treatment of outpatients on Monday after the month-long partial closure of the country's second-biggest infection hub of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome.
The government removed Samsung Medical Center from a list of suspected infection hubs at midnight on Sunday. The hospital shut down some of its facilities on June 13. On July 5 health officials transferred the last MERS patient from the hospital to a state-run facility, and they had since been waiting for the two-week incubation period of the virus to end. Since no new infections have occurred since, the hospital is in the clear.
The total number of MERS patients in Korea has dwindled to just 16. All 155 people who remain in quarantine either at home or in hospital will also be released early this week.
