South Korea's top tech firm Samsung Electronics Co. unveiled the latest edition of its virtual reality device in the United States on Thursday (local time), which supports its high-end smartphones.
Official sales of the Samsung Gear VR, which links to the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, will start in the fourth quarter around the globe. The U.S. price tag for the device stands at US$99.
The virtual reality device allows users to enjoy gaming and movie contents with a 360 degrees rotation view. The company said its smartphones with Super AMOLED displays will deliver vivid contents to users.
The release omes in line with Samsung's efforts to diversify its revenue sources as its mainstay smartphone sales weakened over previous quarters. Samsung Electronics earlier said that sales of its mobile business division, one of its main revenue sources, fell 37.5 percent on-year to 2.76 trillion won (US$2.31 billion) in the second quarter.
