Seoul National University (SNU) will begin testing its self-driving car on public roads in South Korea's capital city from late next month, the school and government sources said Sunday. Developed by researchers at the country's top rated university, the driverless sedan, named "SNUBer," has been test driven inside the school's Seoul campus, but it will be the first time it is making an appearance on public roads.
The university has won permission for the test drive after the National Geographic Information Institute, a government agency in charge of managing the nation's geographic data, completed a special map for self-driving cars. No specific date has been announced for the test drive on public roads, though researchers said it will be conducted in late May in Seoul's Yeouido financial district.
