Kyung Ho Kim, Oct. 16, 2015, 8:48 a.m.

Platforms at all subway stations in the Seoul metropolitan area will be fitted with screen doors by 2017. "We will invest W533.4 billion in the project," said a spokesman of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on Thursday (US$1=W1,129). Of the metropolitan area's 231 subway stations, 78 have such doors.

"Over the last three years, some 61 people died and 47 were injured in subway stations in Seoul and the surrounding area," he said. "Installation of screen doors will enhance passenger safety, while preventing accidents."
