SISTAR member Hyorin recently opened up about her reasons for her appearance on the hit survival hip hop show ‘Unpretty Rapstar’. Unpretty Rapstar is a 2015 South Korean music competition program focusing on female rappers. The show, a spin-off of Show Me the Money, premiered on January 29, 2015, on Mnet and is hosted by Korean rapper San E. In August 2015, it was confirmed that the show would begin airing its second season on September 11, 2015.
Through her agency Starship Entertainment, she announced, “After debuting, I continued to write my own songs, and I even participated in writing the songs on my solo album. I’ve also practiced rap, and I’ve written rap lyrics with hip hop artists I’m friends with.” She continued to explain her decision to appear on the Mnet show, stating, “I wanted to show all of my musical abilities as the artist Hyorin, not as Sistar’s leader Hyorin.”
Starship Entertainment further commented, “There are many popular female artists abroad, like Queen Latifah and Rihanna, who are capable of both singing and rapping. Hyorin has enjoyed listening to hip hop for a while, and she’s been continuously studying the genre as it really interested her. Please support her in this new challenge.”
Kim Hyo Jung, better known by her stage name Hyolyn, is a South Korean singer and actress. She is best known as a member of South Korean girl group Sistar and their sub-unit Sistar19.
