Short tracker-turned-speed skater Park Seung-hi was honored with the top national sports award Monday. The 22-year-old was the recipient of the grand prize at the 61st annual Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) Awards. This was Park's first such award.
At the Sochi Winter Olympics last February, Park won two gold medals and one bronze medal in the women's short track. At the world championships the following month, Park captured one gold, one silver and one bronze.
Park then switched to speed skating last summer and made the national team in October. She is still seeking her first international medal in her new sport but won the national single distance championship in the 1,000 meters last month. Park is hoping to compete at the 2018 Winter Games, which will be held in South Korea's PyeongChang.
