President Park Geun-hye welcomed the Czech prime minister at her office earlier Thursday, where the two leaders decided to lift relations to a "strategic partnership." It is a largely symbolic designation.
Marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic ties this year, Park and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka agreed on periodic talks between foreign ministry officials and to better cooperate in defense and security.
Seoul and Prague will work together in the areas of railway and construction, which will help Korean firms expand their business in Europe. Sobotka also endorsed Park's efforts to achieve peaceful reunification on the Korean Peninsula.
