Korea beat Lebanon 3-0 on Tuesday in the third match of the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Despite concerns over the condition of the pitch and the absence of a key player, Korea quickly took control of the game.
Jang Hyun-soo, who plays for Guangzhou R&F in China, converted a penalty to give Korea a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. The lead was quickly stretched to 2-0 when Lebanon defender Ali Hamam put the ball into his own net just four minutes later. Kwon Chang-hoon added another goal in the 60th minute.
Korea, grouped with Burma, Kuwait, Laos and Lebanon, is now at the top of the group with nine points from three wins and 13 goals. Kuwait came second with 12 goals although it has nine points from three wins as well. Korea will face Kuwait in the Middle Eastern country on Oct. 8.
