Korea ranked 14th worldwide in terms of stock market capitalization in 2015. According to the Korea Exchange, the combined market cap of Korea's listed firms reached US$1.2 trillion as of the end of last year, taking up 1.96 percent of the global market.
While this is a 1.5 percent increase from the previous year, the bourse's global standing remained unchanged. In 2015, the combined global stock market shrank 1.1 percent to $62.8 trillion, due mainly to European, Middle Eastern and African stock markets. The U.S. took the top two spots with the New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ, followed by Japan.
