South Korea to Host First PGA Event

A new official event on the PGA Tour will take place in Korea in October next year. CJ Group agreed to a 10-year sponsorship with the PGA Tour, it announced at a press event on Monday.
The tournament named the CJ Cup is scheduled to kick off in mid-October with a total prize money of US$9.25 million that will increase to up to $10 million. The venue is going to be at a golf course in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province or at another one on Jeju Island owned by CJ.
The CJ Cup will be part of the Asian swing of the PGA Tour. The CIMB Classic and HSBC Champions will be held in Malaysia and China respectively, just before and after the CJ Cup.
Some 78 golfers including 12 invitees will compete in the CJ Cup. CJ also mulls to hold some sideline events such as a K-pop festival and other performances.
