Korea lost to Japan 2-1 in the women's football semifinal match at the Asian Games in Indonesia on Tuesday. After beating Chinese Taipei, Maldives and Indonesia in the group-stage matches earlier, Korea defeated Hong Kong and advanced to the semifinals.
Korea, ranked 15th in the FIFA rankings, scored 27 goals and allowed only one goal in the last four matches until reaching the quarterfinals, but wasn't able to beat the higher, sixth-ranked Japan.
Korea will play against Chinese Taipei for a bronze medal on Friday. Korea won bronze medals in the two previous Asian Games in Guangzhou in 2010 and Incheon in 2014.
