Football players returned home Monday, fresh off victory at the East Asian Cup, which wrapped up in Wuhan, China on Sunday. Fans gathered in droves at Incheon International Airport to greet them along with manager Uli Stielike, and they reciprocated with autographs and photos. "I believe we're moving in the right direction," Stielike said. "I think this trophy will give our players further motivation and plenty of confidence."
Korea has a record of 10 wins, three draws, and one loss this year. It has scored 20 goals while allowing just four goals in 20 matches. Stielike's focus on strong defense seemed to be effective.
Korea hopes to carry this momentum into the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia against Laos at home on Sept. 3 and to an away match against Lebanon on Sept. 8.
