Korea made it to the round of 16 after beating Spain 2-1 in the third group match in Ottawa, Canada on Wednesday. Korea finished second with four points (one win, one draw and one loss) behind Brazil with nine points (three wins) in the group stage.
Korea earned its first-ever win and first second-round berth in its second Women's World Cup appearance after it lost all three group matches in the U.S. in 2003. Verónica Boquete scored the opening goal for Spain in the 29th minute, but Cho So-hyun evened the score with a header eight minutes into the second half and Kim Soo-yun scored the winning goal in the 78 minute.
Korea, ranked 18th in the world, will face No. 3 France on Sunday for a chance to advance to the quarterfinals.
