Koreans have the highest calorie intake from alcoholic drinks among 24 countries, a recent study shows. Quoting the study by market researcher Euromonitor International, the Guardian on Monday said, "The highest calorie intake from alcohol is in [Korea], with nearly 168 calories a person each day."
Next came Poland, followed by Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Japan, Russia and France. The U.S. was not included in the study.
The research found that Koreans enjoy alcohol but drink relatively less soft drinks like cola. They take in an average of 44 calories from soft drinks a day.
A glass of 13% wine generally contains 160 to 228 calories, while a pint of 4% beer has about 160 calories, more than half of that of a bowl of rice with around 300 calories.
The British daily warned that people need to be aware that alcohol can make them gain weight and to take alcohol consumption more seriously to combat obesity.
