It was revealed that South Korea's Communications Commission has banned a total of 895 porn sites, even secured address sites such as "https". The government has shut down public access to over 900 overseas web sites that begin with "https" addresses, including 'Pornhub'.

The extreme measure is to secure illegal videos from being posted online. Earlier in the year, co-founder of Korea' largest porn website was sentenced to prison for illegal videos on the site. The videos were taken by spycams while people used the restroom, changed in the dressing room, or posted by ex-partners without the person's consent.

Many people took to the streets to portest the ban of the sites for infringement of individual freedom. Others claim the ban is a measure of monitoring the people online. The http ban will allow the governments to see what users type into their browers.

More than 240,000 Koreans have signed a petition requiring the head office to remove the ban.
