In a shocking turn of events, figure skating star Kim Yu-Na will not be participating in the International Skating Union-sanctioned Grand Prix Series. This is due to her injury, which was stated as "a slight injury to her metatarsal on her right foot. It requires six weeks of treatment, followed by a rehabilitation program to prevent the injury from recurring," the Korea Skating Union stated.
As a result, she will be skipping the Grand Prix series, and will be making sure to prepare for the upcoming Winter Olympics. It first started when she felt discomfort in her foot last month and went to the hospital in order to get it checked out.
The Grand Prix is important for skaters since it provides them the opportunity to showcase their Olympic programs for evaluation. This means that she will not have a preliminary judgment of her new performance in a competitive setting, and will have to forgo the ability to polish and perfect individual parts. Also, she will be missing the opportunity to raise her world ranking.
