Korean American golfer Michelle Wie announced this week that she intends to participate in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics as a member of the US national team. Wie, 24, explained the reason for her decision as being her inspiration from the 2012 London Olympics. The upcoming Olympic games will be the first in which golf will be included as a part of the official program of the games.
In addition to being selected as a US captain’s pick during Solheim Cup last August, Wie is set to serve as an ambassador for the Youth Olympics Games in Nanjing, China next year. Most recently Wie has been tied for third place during the KEB-HanaBank Championship in Incheon, South Korea, posting her best performance since 2011.
