The LPGA has named Korean golfer Park In Bee Player of the Year. This is the first time a Korean has received this award. The award is the most prestigious of the five awards presented each season. She finished fourth at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico on Sunday after shooting a final round 69 to end at 11-under-par 277. With the result from Sunday's tournament, Park earned the honor ahead of the season-ending CME Group Titleholders this week in Naples, Florida.
Her strongest rival for the award, Suzann Pettersen of Norway, had to settle for a share of fifth place in Guadalajara after finishing one stroke behind Park. The result gave the Korean an unassailable lead in the points race. Park earned 290 points from six previous wins this season, including headline-grabbing victories at three consecutive majors, while Pettersen racked up 252 points heading into the tournament in Mexico.
