A Summons for the owner of the ferry Sewol has been issued by the Incheon District Prosecutors Office. The summons called for Yoo Byun Eon, the part time cult leader who owns the ferry operations and management of Chonghaejin Marine to appear for questioning.
Prosecutors also obtained an arrest warrant for Yoo's eldest son Dae-gyun (44) after he failed to show up for questioning by the 10 a.m. Monday deadline. Investigators attempted to arrest Yoo Dae-gyun at his home in southern Seoul on Tuesday morning but were unable to find him. He has gone into hiding and switched off his mobile phone. Prosecutors believe he is hiding out at a retreat owned by his father's sect south of Seoul.
Followers of Yoo's cult and staff of his companies gathered at the retreat in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province, where the compound is located, after rallying in front of the Supreme Public Prosecutors' Office in southern Seoul on Monday claiming that they were victims of "religious persecution" and a "witch hunt." The number of private security guards manning the gates of the compound has been bolstered, and rows of cars have been parked to form a barricade.
