Team Korea Starting Roster Revealed for National Football Team
kpride, Sept. 30, 2014, 8:30 a.m.
The first Korean football lineup under new national manager Uli Stielike was announced on Monday. The former German star player announced the names of 22 players for two international friendlies in October against Paraguay in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, at 8 p.m. on Oct. 10 and against Costa Rica in Seoul at 8 p.m. on Oct. 14.
Kim Seung-dae, the ace in the team currently representing Korea at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, was selected to the national team for the first time. Otherwise there is little change in the roster.
Several veterans were retained, like Lee Dong-gook of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Cha Du-ri of FC Seoul, and Kwak Tae-hwi of Al-Hilal FC in Saudi Arabia. Four players who regularly start in their respective club teams in Germany’s Bundesliga were also listed -- Son Heung-min of Bayer Leverkusen, Koo Ja-cheol and Park Joo-ho of FSV Mainz 05, and Kim Jin-su of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
Stielike excluded tall striker Kim Shin-wook of Ulsan Hyundai because he was unable to see him play live due to an injury that forced Kim out of the Asiad prematurely.
