Yangpu Fan was stabbed to death by a homeless man, fighting over a seat in an internet cafe. The altercation began on Wednesday night around 9 p.m. when three boys were playing League of Legend at K&D Internet Cafe in Flushing. The trio asked Paul Kim, a homeless man resting in a corner seat of the cafe, to give up his seat.
Having sat in the corner seat for 6 months, Kim refused to give it up to the kids. Eye witnesses stated that Kim yelled at the kids, “I’m spending my time!”
The three boys then attacked Kim, punching him in the face. They later reported to the police that Kim subsequently grabbed one of them by the throat and punched him back in the face. When Kim grabbed what looked like a hammer from his bag, the kids ran off with Kim yelling “You’re going to die!” in the distance.
30 minutes later, the trio showed up with their 19 year old friend Yangfu Pan who also demanded Kim to give up his seat. Fan and the trio jumped Kim once again throwing his over the desk as they beat and kicked him. Kim pulled out a knife and stabbed Fan in the left side of the stomach, police reported.
Fan’s friends took him to New York Presbyterian/Queens Hospital as police showed up to the internet cafe and found Kim sitting at his computer desk. He was peacefully arrested while Fan died at the hospital at around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Kim was charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. His arraignment took place on Thursday.
The internet cafe’s manager, Paul Chen, reported that Kim started coming into K&D about six months ago and paid his $2/hour fee to sit and play games at his computer. He also reported that Kim never bothered anyone and always smiled when buying a drink at the front desk.
