Celebrity advertisements on TV have always been huge, but the market started expanding exponentially with skyrocketing demand for hallyu content. However, no matter how much hallyu culture has evolved, some TV commercials featuring A-list stars have and will continue to shock and make us laugh out loud spontaneously and unexpectedly. Below is a list of the top five celebrity TV commercials that made viewers gape in awe.

1. Lee Joon-gi’s famous pomegranate drink ad

Before Lee Joon-gi was considered a top-tier actor, he rose to stardom through a single commercial. In the ad for a pomegranate drink called “Beauty Loves Pomegranate,” the actor immersed in the world of comic books as himself. Perhaps the most famous ad for the drink is his first, where he played a piano while in a pure white suit, but it left a mark on Korean commercial history as such formats soon became taboo within the industry.

2. Yoo Seung-ho’s Choco Heim ad
One of the best ways to eat Choco Heim -- one of the most beloved South Korean confectioneries -- is to keep it in the freezer. 
Crown Confectionery inked a contract with actor Yoo Seung-ho and managed to convince the actor to actually personify the snack and express the chill within the subzero machine with lackluster choreography. The viewers were even able to see the actor laugh in embarrassment in the middle of the choreography during its official broadcast.

3. SHINee’s Ppusyeo Ppusyeo ad
The younger generation in South Korea is probably familiar with the snack Ppusyeo Ppusyeo, which encourages young children to pour ramen soup into a bag full of raw ramen noodles -- then beat it to a pulp before devouring. SHINee’s commercial for the “interactive” snack brand made viewers and fans wonder whether the members were advertising an anger management class integrating dance and violence.

4. Park Shin-hye’s Mamonde ad
Korean cosmetic giant Amore Pacific’s subsidiary brand Mamonde has renewed contract with Park Shin-hye for years due to her pan-Asian popularity and beauty. However, in 2014, when the brand public relations manager submitted an idea of Park Shin-hye turning into a woodland fairy for their Lotus skin care line, Park’s agency probably thought, “Park as fairy, that’s a great, and safe, idea” -- and let it slip through their fingers. Fans are assuming they didn’t get to the second page where it held all the gruesome details with actor Go Kyung-pyo as her partner in cosmetic crime.

5. EXO’s Sunny10 ad
This cheesy commercial with a “Boys Over Flowers” theme made fans want to boycott the brand due to its bizarre story line and weird voices dubbed over the ad’s main models, K-pop acoustic singer Juniel and EXO’s Chanyeol.
