A U.S. expert has expressed alarm at the cyber threat from North Korea and called for its General Bureau of Reconnaissance to be incapacitated.
Mathew Ha at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies in Washington made the remarks in an interview with Radio Free Asia last Friday.
He said that the North's cyber capabilities have developed over the past three decades to a point where they present a significant threat and its cyber attacks are as dangerous as its nuclear weapons.
Ha said the General Bureau of Reconnaissance, which plays a leading role in cyber attacks, should be neutralized by incapacitating the computer network it operates for the purpose of cyber attacks.
He said the bureau has been setting up shell companies all over the world that carry out cyber attacks.
