A veteran actor who's been in the industry for 20 years, henceforth known as A, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting his co-star. The Seoul High Court sentenced him to 1 year in prison, 2 years of probation, and 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program for sexually molesting his co-star, henceforth known as actress B, on a film set in April 2015.
A pleaded that he was innocent, but he was found guilty of ripping off B's underwear, forcibly putting his hand in her pants, and grabbing her without consent. B stated that she suffered from skin abrasions for two weeks after the incident.
A stated that he was following the director's instructions and was getting into character. Initially A was found not guilty in December 2016 and the prosecution suggested 5 years in prison as the court found the director advised A on his role and B was not told about the scene. It wasn't even in the script.
The case was reviewed again by an appellate court on October 13 and A was found guilty.
A is a popular actor of theatre, drama, and movies. His most well-known role is a villain on a popular cable drama. Though he was cast in an upcoming drama, reports say that he is no longer appearing in the drama.
