Volunteer Diver loses life during Sewol rescue efforts

Lee Kwang-wook, voltuneer diver died on Tuesday while in search for missing victims of the Sewol ferry disaster off Jindo, South Jeolla Province. A rescue team reported communications with Lee Kwang-wook haulted after he entered the water at 6:06am and two other divers went in search for him. Kwang was found unconscious and rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:36am.
The cause of death was likely to be pneumocephalus, a condition in which air blocks blood vessels within the brain. Kwang was a 30 year diving veteran and volunteered a day earlier to replace exhausted rescue divers.
