On the most recent episode of JTBC’s variety show, Abnormal Summit, Wonder Girls members Yeeun and Hyelim made an appearance. During the episode, MC Jeon Hyun Moo asks Hyelim about how she often gets mistaken for a Chinese person, and she responds, “Yea, I think it’s because I lived in Hong Kong for 14 years.”
MC Sung Si Kyung then asks G12 Chinese representative Zhang Yuan to speak with Hyelim in Chinese, and the two go on to exchange greetings in Mandarin and Cantonese, respectively.
Their short conversation stops prematurely, however, because Zhuang Yuan is literally rendered speechless by Hyelim’s Cantonese.
“Is Cantonese more comfortable for you than [Korean]?” Jeon Hyun Moo asks Hyelim, to which she replies, “No, Korean and English are most comfortable, and then it’s Chinese.”
Canadian rep Guillaume Patry is asked to converse with Hyelim in English after she reveals she learned her English at a Canadian international school in Hong Kong. But the self-declared Wonder Girls fan makes the rest of the studio laugh with his awkward questions, and he even makes a grammatical slip.
