Ten of Korea's 30 major companies saw their workforces shrink last year, with the trend most noticeable in the shipbuilding, aviation and automobile industries, conglomerate tracker Chaebul.com said on Sunday.
Kumho Asiana slashed the number of its personnel by 4,460 people or 18 percent in 2017. Amid a continued recession in the shipbuilding industry, the employee number fell by 3,117 or 8.3 percent at Hyundai Heavy Industries and by 1,124 or 0.7 percent at Hyundai Motor.
But the total number of workers at the top 30 companies rose 1.6 percent to 1.32 million from 2016.
