According to a South Korean politician, North Korea has increased more than double in lavish lifestyle since the new leader Kim Jong-un came to power. The current North Korean regime has spent more foreign currency on such items as automobiles, electronics and liquor, compared to during the previous era of Kim Jong-il.
Totaling at $307.1 million, the sum was significantly higher than the previous regime’s expenditure of $151 million in 2009. South Korea’s Saenuri Party politician Yoon Sanghyun, the source of the revelation, has argued that North Korea was lavishly spending on luxury items to maintain “the luxurious lifestyle of the Kim Family” and “its base of authority.”
