Two new home-grown missiles will be paraded before the public during a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of the Armed Forces Day on Tuesday.

Photos and videos of the Hyunmu-2 ballistic missile and the Hyunmu-3 cruise missile are already in circulation, but this will be the first time the real thing goes on show.

The Hyunmu-2 has a range of 300 km and is powerful enough to pulverize an area the size of scores of soccer fields. The Hyunmu-3 has a range of 1,500 km and is allegedly capable of hitting a window-sized target. It has all of North Korea within range.

A military spokesman said parade "will be an effective way of reassuring the public that the armed forces have the capacity to respond to a nuclear or missile attack from the North."

The event will be held at Seoul Airbase Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, and the Gwanghwamun, Dongdaemun, and Seodaemun areas of central Seoul. Some 11,000 troops, about 190 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment, and around 120 aircraft will take part.
