An accused man has been arrested on Tuesday, on the charges of killing Ban Eun-ji (22) ABC News has reported. Australian police have arrested 19-year-old Alex Reuben McEwan on Tuesday, in connection to the murder. McEwan is currently charged with the murder of Ban, followed by the dumping of her body in a park, where a civilian discovered the body and called it in.
Ban appeared to have received multiple severe injuries to her head, as well as a dramatic loss of blood. Police recorded no sign of sexual assault.
Police made their arrest after reviewing CCTV footage, as well as listening to several witness accounts. McEwan, whose home is very near the scene of the crime, told police that he wished to “kill anyone at random.”
Ban’s parents arrived in Brisbane on Tuesday to identify her body, and were briefed on the situation by local police. Ban arrived in Brisbane nearly 6 weeks ago, on a work-holiday visa. She worked part time as a hotel cleaner, and had hopes of living a peaceful life while continuing to learn English in Australia.
Ban was the eldest daughter of a poor family, and will be terribly missed.
