[Writer's Choice] I'm 25 years old and I still play Maplestory

Hello. My name is Priscilla. I have a problem. I'm 25 years old and I still play Maplestory.

For anyone who isn't aware of what Maplestory is, it is an MMORPG developed by a South Korean company called Wizet. In the game, your character takes up one of the many classes (nearly all fall into one of the five groups: Warrior, Bowman, Magician, Thief, and Pirate) and you develop their skills and abilities fighting monsters and completing quests. A game played all over the world, there are multiple servers and the server I have access to is called Global Maplestory. Every server usually gets the updates several months after it's introduced in the Korean server.

You might be thinking, "This doesn't seem like a problem. You're just playing a game." But this game was quite popular when I was in 7th grade and most of the people I know who played it then, no longer play it now.

And, this game is only playable on Windows. I have a Mac and I used Bootcamp to make a Window partition mainly so I could play this game.

Also, I will play this game for hours in a day. The game usually tells you to maybe stop playing when you hit the 3-hour mark but I just ignore it. I've started playing the game through Steam and it's really hard to ignore the number of hours I've put into the game.

There's something absolutely satisfying about destroying the cute monsters you find in the game. And it's addicting.

As a kid, I wasn't happy with the game because of the amount of grinding you had to do to level-up. It would take me weeks to get my character to Lvl. 30. Now, I can reach that level within an hour or two.

And I always enjoyed the themed maps the game would have. The map would have monsters and power-ups that were related to real-world locations (i.e. Singapore had Laksa and Curry Crab items to buy and you fight trash).

I have a bad habit of constantly making new characters because I want to try out all the jobs. I think the highest level I've ever reached is 150, but that was because I made the character during a level-up event where every time you leveled up, you were actually leveling up 3 levels at a time.

I'll look at what everyone is playing and they're either playing League of Legends or Overwatch.

But not me. I'll here in my little corner, playing a game I've enjoyed for 12 years.
