[Writer's Choice] Should you watch 'ABYSS' on Netflix?

NETFLIX just released a new K-drama series titled, Abyss, a fantasy drama that tells a story about two people who are brought back to life with a soul-reviving marble called 'Abyss'. However, they are not themselves in physical appearance. The two individuals come back in complete different appearances with the same soul. Go Se Yeon and Cha Min played by Park Bo Young and Ahn Hyo Seop, are revived through the 'Abyss' but come back in different bodies. Go Se Yeon, a prosecutor who was a goddess reincarnated as a lawyer with a common look whereas, Cha Min who was unattractive and deemed 'ugly' came back with a flawless handsome face. As the story progress, they must inveil the truth about their own deaths and revival.

I briefly summarized the plot of the drama series as I don't want to give away any spoilers because you need to watch this K-drama. I am currently on episode 4 (the latest episode out on Netflix) and have to wait till next week to see episode 5 and 6 which I am dreading.

I will reveal what I like and dislike about the drama. So if you're interested in what I think about the drama series then proceed on reading! :)

Likes & Dislikes:

As I mentioned earlier, I am on the 4th episode so we still have a bit to go so I'm worried that the ending will be poorly written because the drama's suspense and thrill comes right off the bat. I am hoping that the writers will keep up with the same energy with the amount of suspense to pull me through the whole journey, but I mean, so far so good. There are many interesting things about this drama that I like -so much suspense, thrill, and mystery compacked in one single drama series with touches of sweetness and comedy to release the dramatic intense. It's very well-developed with an original story that hasn't crossed any cliché scenes that K-dramas seem to possess. The drama has you on edge because you are literally doubting every single character and has you hooked with the turn of events. I enjoy that it's so fast and unfolds the main plot quickly so you know what you're getting yourself into. Additionally, the story leaves me dwelling and wondering with those "what-ifs", which is what a good story and drama evokes in the viewers. Park Bo Young's acting is so impeccable. However, I am not feeling Ahn Hyo Seop's acting. He doesn't match her level, in my opinion. I hope that his acting enhances as the series progresses. Now that I mentioned a dislike, let me go over a few things that bug me about the drama. I know I stated earlier how it's good that the story is so fast paced because it hooks you, it also comes with some negative remarks. The story unfolds so fast that I found myself missing details. I had to re-watch some episodes to capture everything because a lot of content is just thrown at you and you get a bit confused, which leads you to asking a lot questions. I'm scared that not many things are going to be answered and resolved by the finale of the drama. We just really have to stick around and find out. I left the my main dislike for last. I'm so annoyed at how they make Park Bo Young seems so ugly when she is not. Throughout the drama she if often regarded as common with regular-like face features in a way that's so demeaning.

In the end the positive outweighs the negatives. With that being said, if you're a K-drama fanatic then ABYSS is the drama for you!
