The CEO of YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk, or “Papa YG”, usually is known for his silence when it comes to the promotions of his label’s artists. This time around seem different however, has he has released some information on the upcoming activities for iKON, WINNER, Psy, and also the possibility of a brand new girl group from YG Entertainment next year!
Yang Hyun Suk met with press after iKON’s debut concert on October 3rd in order to discuss the group’s upcoming schedules in Japan. Papa YG answered, "They will concurrently promote within and without Korea. A week from now, they have six fan meetings scheduled in Japan, but it seems we will have to add more locations. On China social media service Weibo, iKON was hashtagged a total of 400 million times, which is unbelievable. In the past, you could only promote physically, but now, thanks to the advent of online services, as long as the content is good, news spreads by itself which makes things easier."
The interviewer then mentioned that there was many talks about how the fans seemed to favor iKON over WINNER to which Yang Hyun Suk replied, "If iKON is promoting, then they favor iKON; if WINNER is promoting, they prefer WINNER. Before, iKON fans were upset but since the focus is on iKON now, it seems WINNER fans are upset," and also reassured fans by saying, "WINNER is planning promotions to do better on their second album than their first album."
The CEO of YG then discussed what Psy has been up to by saying, "Psy's promotions are long overdue. What's important is that Psy's album release isn't determined by YG but he himself has to say that he's done [with his album]. He knows he's nearing the end so he's trying to come back within the year. He feels incredibly burdened by "Gangnam Style"s success, but I think it's okay for him to not outdo ["Gangnam Style"] and not promote in the US. He's a good friend of mine on stage so I hope he continues doing music with a peace of mind," showing the rapper his personal support in all of his projects.
Yang Hyun Suk raised even more curiosity by discussion CL’s debut which is scheduled to happen this year, as well as the possible debut of a new girl group that YG has been preparing for a very long time. In regards to 2NE1, Yang Hyun Suk simply stated, "As of now, we are focusing on CL's American debut. After she does well [in America], we will think of [plans for] 2NE1," and added, "2NE1 is contracted until next year."
After this statement, Blackjacks have become nervous about the possible disbandment of 2NE1. Media outlets have reported that the group was "on the verge of breaking up," as well as stating that the disbandment was a guarantee amongst YG. The label has denied all of these claims, but the rumors and worries still seem to be as real as ever.
