It’s been seven years since South Korea’s leading entertainment agency, YG Entertainment announced the debut of 2NE1, the agency’s exclusive girl group. However, on Wednesday the agency announced that they are currently aiming for a new girl group to debut in July.
“YG’s head Yang Hyun-suk has held meetings with prominent music video directors to discuss new projects regarding the debut of a new girl group,” an industry source explained.
YG Entertainment has successfully launched several boy bands such as Winner and IKON since the debut of iconic K-pop group Big Bang back in 2006. However, 2NE1 was the only girl group the agency has promoted.
Yang unveiled the plan for a new girl group last October during a press conference, but the agency has since shifted its attention to Winner for their recent album release.
YG also added that the forthcoming girl group members have already been chosen among their pool of trainees. The details on the group and project are still under wraps.
