K-pop veteran artist Yoo Seung Joon has just announced his decision to try and file for an appeal against his ban from South Korea! The artist is still banned from ever setting foot into the country after failing to uphold his duty to serve his mandatory military service. The artist received citizenship from the United States secretly, and left the country before he was enlisted.
The artist has now been tirelessly knocking on the door of his home country for re-entry, but the Seoul Administrative Court continues to enforce their ban against the artist. The court has stated that at this point, they cannot afford to allow the artist to enter the country since it would be unfair to the soldiers who are currently serving their country, and might possibly entice future soldiers to try and avoid their service.
After considering the decision from the court, Yoo Seung Joon and his attorney submitted an appeal against the decision. Their argument is that of the 17,229 citizens who actually did evade military service in the past five years, it was not fair to only keep Yoo Seung Joon out of the country permanently, especially due to the fact that it has been 15 years.
